New DDR4 Memory Goes Into Production Late 2012

Micron has this week announced that they have commenced shipping fully functional DDR4 DRAM modules to their major customers, in DIMM form factor. The first engineering samples being shipped are the next step in Micron’s plan to have DDR4 computer memory ready to go into mass production by Q4 2012. The new DDR4 technology will be scooped up quickly by key companies and competitors within the industry by 2013.

The brand new DDR4 models focus on reducing power consumption and offering a whole host of updates over the previous DDR3 model. Developed in partnership with Taiwan’s Nanya, where Micron’s 30nm process node was used, the new low-power, high performance chips (4GB, 512MB DDR4 x 8 memory chip) offer memory densities up to 8GB for a single DIMM. For the mainstream, this means DDR4 will create systems capable of 32GB of RAM, whilst the higher end of the scale will benefit from 64GB and even 128GB. This new standard for PC and Apple memory will be manufactured with x8, x16 and x32 solder connections, creating “effective GHz” – for those not fluent in memory-speak, this would create clocks from between 2.4 – 3.2 billion transfers per second.

As the DDR4 memory isn’t expected to go into production until the end of this year, hitting the shelves sometime in 2013, those looking for a RAM upgrade should consider the huge variety of DDR3 RAM memory available from Data Memory Systems, a leading US supplier of PC and Apple memory solutions for commercial and domestic uses. The 4GB DDR3-1333 SODIMM is used in all of the latest Apple products, including Macbook Pros and iMacs, and with its 30% reduction in power over its DDR2 predecessor and high data transfer speeds, it is a fantastic solution for those who can’t wait until DDR4’s 2013 release to upgrade.

Data Memory Systems also offer a Samsung 8MB DDR3-1333 SODIMM priced at just $109.00. Their lifetime advanced replacement warranty and 30-day money back guarantee ensure that there are mechanisms in place if customers aren’t entirely satisfied with the product. But with the dependability and consistency that Data Memory Systems have become known for, as well as the highest quality products, the commitment to ensuring customer satisfaction is highly valued. Maximum system memory as a result of this product hits 16GB for MacBook Pros and 32GB for iMacs, and with twice the transfer capabilities of DDR2, this upgrade is the ideal choice in the way for DDR4.
