BLOG: Are computers really obsolete after four years?

4 year old computer

There’s been a lot of discussion recently about Apple’s Macbook Pro. The last version was released four years ago. And as a result, techies everywhere have been looking to the computer giant for an updated version for the last three years. Critics left, right and center have been ushering the company along, hoping for a glimmer of a release.

Apple set a president for themselves by releasing new products at the same time and with the same periods in between every year. And as a result, people now expect it. However just because a computer is ‘four years old’, it doesn’t mean that it’s outdated in the main sense of the word – as essentially, it’s still a new machine.

Aside from the 12-inch MacBook, which was refreshed in April, every Mac in the line – including both the Mini to the Pro, has almost been labelled as outdated. In fact, MacRumors, the website dedicated to bringing consumers the latest Mac rumored updates, lists almost every Mac as ”Don’t Buy” due to its age.

Yet the machines still pack a powerful punch in the marketplace. The 13-inch model for example comes complete with a 2.5GHz Core i5 Ivy Bridge processor. And although there are computers with higher capacities, the matter of fact is there always will be. After all Macs are not gaming PCs. They are popular choices for the creative industries, in workplaces and with students, so do not need to boast the best-on-the-market hardware.

All computers – no matter what spec they come with – naturally slow-down after a few years’. But they can stay in prime condition and working at full capacity by taking simple steps. Upgrading computer memory is one of the best, and most effective ways of speeding up a computer and helping it to run like new. Likewise, ensuring only trusted software, files and websites are used will keep it in top condition for longer.

And just because a computer is four years old, it doesn’t necessarily make it a bad investment. Apple computers are built to last for many years, as long as great care is taken. And updating them is simple with specialist equipment, which means they can last even longer.

We stock one of the most comprehensive ranges of computer memory available on the internet, both for PCs and Macs. Stocking SSDs, RAM, flash drives and specialist Apple memory, they have something for all computer memory needs.
