Reinforce Against Hard Drive Failure with Regular Computer Back-Ups

Data Memory Systems are one of the leading suppliers of external computer memory solutions in the US, and they are urging everyone with a computer to invest in more memory that will allow them to back-up their system, avoiding the dreaded memory wipe that has plagued so many. In the US alone, 140,000 hard drives crash every week, and with 25% of people never backing up their files and data, that’s a large number of people who are putting their important photos, music, videos and other documents at risk.

The problem is not only limited to those using personal devices – it’s a commercial issue, too. 74% of organisations have experienced data loss in the workplace, causing huge problems for productivity and compliance. 32% of these businesses take several days to recover from such a huge data wipe-out – 16% of them never recover. 7 in 10 small businesses report that a single loss of a small amount of data would be catastrophic for them, having a big impact on the business and on the bottom line. It’s not just family photos and favourite songs that need constant back-up – businesses are putting themselves at risk if they don’t implement a concrete back-up process with plenty of extra computer memory to safely store the files.

There are a huge number of ways in which individuals and businesses can back-up their data. 27% of adults opt for the external hard drive; a simple accessible choice which is reliable and can be transported to different locations at the user’s discretion. Many of them have the capacity to provide back-ups for multiple devices, which make them perfect for use in family homes where multiple laptops and desktop computers are often at work. 18% of people use flash drives, which are a great way to back-up personal data and keep it handy for if it’s ever needed. These pocket devices are often only blessed with the memory to store one person’s back-ups, but they are efficient, portable, and their transfer speeds are getting ever-faster.

Other popular options are also starting to emerge, with the cloud obviously being a primary contender to eventually replace hard drives and USB storage. 8% of people currently upload data to a cloud service, which allows them to access their data from any device with the correct login information. As cloud storage continues to grow, more options will become available to consumers, but until then, hard drives and more physical memory are still the storage solution of choice for regular computer users.
