Put down the feather duster and spring clean computers with Data Memory Systems

The days are getting longer, which can only mean one thing: spring is on its way. And although this may be time to break out the feather duster and get rid of cobwebs and the traces of winter around the home, Data Memory Systems, one of the US’ premium suppliers of computer memory and accessories, has encouraged computer owners to take this golden opportunity to spruce up their computers too.

The team at DMS has offered computer owners a few tips for this warmer season to ensure their machines work as good as new as the fresh season approaches – but without costing the earth.

A spokesperson from Data Memory Systems, said, “Spring cleaning is an annual rite of passage for many, with people cleaning their houses from top to bottom to get rid of get rid of built up dirt and grime. But when doing this, it’s important that people don’t forget their devices. Spring cleaning their computers can prolong their life – or indeed give them a new lease of life to ensure they can carry on working to their full potential right the way through the year and beyond.”

A computer’s performance will start to decrease after a relatively short period of time. Every program, folder and video that is watched on a machine will have an impact on its performance – no matter what the spec. However those with machines that may be slowing down need not fear. The computer experts at Data Memory Systems have a few tricks up their sleeve for helping get a machine back to full capacity – or near enough – this spring.

The number one thing a computer owner can do is to put down the polish and get cleaning out the machine. By deleting all the programs that haven’t been used recently, are no longer needed and are available elsewhere will usually free up a fair amount of space, with the performance results seen instantly.

Once this has been done, it’s time to invest in external storage. External hard drives are ideal for storing the myriad of files and folders kept on machines nowadays in order to free up memory and reduce the pressure on PCs and laptops. External storage devices offer incredible value for money, coming in at much less than entire new machines. As well as this, they can also boast larger capacities than PCs and laptops, with DMS’ largest mobile external hard drive coming with a 4TB capacity, and desktop hard drives boasting a capacity up to an industry defining 40TB.

The experts’ final tip is to boost the RAM memory. Although most modern machines come with a decent amount of RAM, new software and programs are putting an increasing amount of strain on this pre-installed RAM. Therefore increasing this by just a small amount can have a big impact of the way a machine runs.
