As Windows 10 Heads to PCs, Data Memory Systems Urge Users to Prepare Computers for New Operating System

Microsoft has finally announced that Windows 10 will be available as a free upgrade on July 29, with users of Windows 7 and 8.1 able to download the update without paying for one whole year. With notifications popping up on desktops all over the world urging users to pre-register for the update, Data Memory Systems is taking a look at how computer users can revamp their system and prepare their computers ahead of the long-awaited upgrade.

First, users will need a reservation. Windows users all over the globe should now be able to see a small icon on the taskbar, which launches the reservation app for Windows 10. The process follows a quick registration form and it’s not too taxing, but it’s essential for those who want to get their hands on the update first.

One of the next things to make sure of is that PCs are up to date. For those running Windows 7, they must be running Service Pack 1 in order for the update to be installed on July 29. For those who are running Windows 8, they must be running the latest version of Windows 8.1.

The size of the update is estimated by Microsoft to be around 3GB in size. It will require 1GB of RAM for the 32-bit version, and 2GB of RAM for 64-bit. These aren’t huge amounts of memory, and practically all computers will be able to accept the update without any need to install extra memory solutions. But many will see the introduction of Windows 10 as a great excuse to breathe new life into their system – and adding extra RAM memory is an excellent way to do so. Data Memory Systems stocks a comprehensive range of RAM memory solutions for all brands and models of computers and laptops, so there’s plenty of options for those who might wish to upgrade.

Data Memory Systems also warns all of those who will be upgrading to Windows 10 to back up their system before they do so. OneDrive is a useful Microsoft application, and there are cloud solutions like Dropbox and Google Drive to choose from. Alternatively, an external hard drive should provide ample storage for a back-up, and Data Memory Systems strongly advises that all users get into the habit of backing up their data in this way regularly – not just when there’s a system update. Microsoft have stressed that the majority of files and settings will migrate as part of the upgrade, but experts advise a back-up to be cautious.
